Meet Lin LaveryLin Lavery has spent almost three decades working for the community of Greenwich. As a teacher, volunteer, town board leader, and Selectman, Lin has a record of delivering on her promises and working for each and every one of Greenwich’s citizens. She is an effective manager and a dedicated leader whose passion for public service, vision for the future, and decisive leadership style make her uniquely suited to the job of First Selectman.
As Selectman for the past two years, Lin has given the job the passion, vision, and leadership that she has brought to her entire career of teaching, community involvement, and government work. She has always advocated for the concerns of the citizens who have sought her help, be it children, students, business leaders, or seniors.
She has consistently fought for citizens on issues big and small over the past two years. From helping a senior keep her clothesline to creating the Environmental Action Task Force, her commitment to improving the everyday lives of Greenwich residents is profound. Lin’s work with the Environmental Action Task Force won her widespread acclaim, including a Conservation Award from the Greenwich Garden Club and the Ann Rockefeller Prize for Conservation for her excellence in environmental advocacy.
Lin moved to Greenwich in1983 and has been active in the entire spectrum of Greenwich institutions beginning as a board member of the Glenville School PTA. Since then, Lin has served on the boards of Trustees of the Greenwich Library, The United Way of Greenwich, Greenwich High School PTA, and Hortulus. Lin also served as the vice chairman of the Commission on Aging. As chairman of the Greenwich Conference on Aging she brought together 80 experts to build consensus for senior priorities.
A past president of the Greenwich Junior League, Lin developed a public-private partnership which led to Kids in Crisis, which has since helped thousands of children at risk of abuse and neglect and their families. By creating a partnership of federal, state, and private entities, Lin built a diverse team that got the job done.
Lin has lived in Greenwich for twenty-six years and received degrees from Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York, and Columbia Teachers College in New York City. She was a high school English teacher in Somerville, Massachusetts and chairman of the English Department at Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, New York. She and her husband, Tracy have three grown children, Brian, Michael and Kathleen and two grandchildren. |
